Community Infrastructure & Safety Services

Community Infrastructure & Safety Services is located in the Administration Building and oversees operations and maintenance for everything from roads, buildings, Elder's and rental units and everything that it entails to ensure the Nation is safe.
Housing

Housing is the foundation for strong and healthy communities. The Housing Department, utilizing orderly, ethical and transparent management practices, diligently works toward providing a functional housing delivery system to ensure units are maintained in an acceptable manner to extend their life expectancy while providing safe, affordable, adequate housing for Nation members.

The FNFN Housing Department:
  • Manages new, rental, elder, and individually owned member housing
  • Assists with preparation of various forms of assistance that are available to support the development of on-reserve housing
  • Acquires funding and financing for projects
  • Budgets for project sustainability
  • Oversees day-to-day administration of housing portfolios (applications, allotment, rent/mortgage collection, service requests, maintenance inspections, etc)
  • Fulfills monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting requirements
  • Acquires and maintains the FNFN insurance portfolio on all Nation owned assets
  • Develops, implements, and enforces policy
  • Procures outside service suppliers to provide for the housing needs of the community
Housing management is often about managing expectations. If either party has unrealistic expectations of the other there will be unnecessary tension. Therefore, lines of communication between the occupants and the FNFN Housing Department must be kept open.

As a Nation, we are moving toward a future in which our children are fluent in our languages, they know the ways of our ancestors, and live in safety and security. With improvements in infrastructure, including safe and healthy homes, we will move toward that goal." ~ RFOV, p. 150
